Iguanids

Iguanids are a sapient race in the Big Blue. They are a reptilian species native to Cerulea, inhabiting volcanic islands, underground tunnels and geothermal vents. Iguanids possess the unique ability to skitter across the surfaces of liquids such as water and even lava, allowing them to thrive in the coastal regions of their igneous homelands. They are very resistant to heat, often basking in the sun or upon warm rocks.

Iguanids are a little smaller than many of the other people of the Blue, averaging two-thirds of the typical human's height. Their short stature, long tongue and lightning-fast reactions help them to hunt fish and insects, and avoid threats with crafty precision. Iguanids live longer than humans or Tritonids, with a lifespan around double that of the average human or more.

Avid thinkers, Iguanids are known for their love of puzzles and games. They are also scientifically gifted, often motivated by a desire to learn more, push the boundaries or find out what happens -- sometimes to their own expense. Thought by others to be both wise and cunning, Iguanids are usually big-picture thinkers who value strategy and forethought over impulsive action or brute force.

The majority of Iguanids live within the Iguanid Empire. Of those living elsewhere, in the Tritonid Dominion or perhaps The Heap, some are advocates of the Empire who have left with the The Eternal Empress's blessing, whilst others are defectors or runaways, having escaped the punishment for their disloyalty. Iguanids speak Iguanid and usually Common, although it's not unusual for them to speak many of the other Languages of the Blue as well.
